good point, one of my friends did a project on how all of our stats as a country are weighed down by inner city kids, and idk if we have a plan to fix that, or if we even should. just my opinion.

Where the **** do they teach creationism in school?
Texan here, pure evolution for us, as it should be in a scholarly institute.

Texas, like many states, allows large freedom in curriculum to districts.
Your district decided not to "offer alternative explanations to evolution" but two districts south and it might have.

Sorry we haven't had a #1 male tennis player this decade, guess we'll just have to put up with #1 female tennis player.
Also, sorry that we didn't win the fifa tournament last time.

I ******* hate this image, and I'm not even ******* American. It's so bloody untrue...if you say that Americans make fun of people you might as well include every other country as well, because it seems to me that Americans don't make fun of other countries any more than any other countries do.

Americans also seem to take insults pretty well----you have those ******* sweden breeds jealously or whatevers and other nordic countries masturbating about their own country but as soon as Americans mention something good about the US then they get shot down.

still pretty sure we're a technological giant and head and shoulders ahead of most western countries in some fashion or another, our military hardware is still pretty ******* awesome. obesity is a ******** measurement that doesn't take into consideration body structure and musculature. we generally win or finish top 3 in almost every Olympic event, our school system is great its the people in it that suck.. i'd type more but i'm running out of room you bigoted ass wipe.

I don't really think America makes fun of countries that much. Aside from the France, muslims/middle easterns this is a group of people and you know what i mean , North Korea, Africa i know it's a continent and not a country and MAYBE Australia(i don't think the upside down joke is that offensive and neither is hur dur crazy animals). If you want you could say we make fun of Germany, but i think WWII nazi jokes aren't necessarily offensive since Germany is nothing like it was during that time. I think we more offend races and ethnicities. WIth the spics, ******* , chinks, etc.

tl;dr we don't really make fun of countries, just ethnicities.

Sporting powerhouse as evidenced by the sheer dominance in the Olympics. Even when half our professional league's players go home to play for their own countries, the US still wins the lion's share of gold, silver, and bronze medals.

Iraq was a colossal mistake, most Americans realize that now. That's why we shut down Kerry and Obama's plan to get us involved in Syria. So much for dems not being warmongers too.

We voted in the last idiot too. Washington DC, by which I mean the senate too not just the presidential administration or any one party, is completely corrupt. Nothing is going to change while we keep faith in the GOP and DNC.

Actually, my social studies teacher explained to us why the assumption that we have a bad education system is not true. The intelligence of our education is mapped with test scores, same goes for many other countries. My teacher explained that in many countries, especially in Asia, there is literally a cutoff in your education based on a test. Around certain levels, there is a test that decides if you are smart enough to continue, if not you are dropped. This means that the country is only accounting for the top x% of their society. Meanwhile America has a system where everyone deserves an education and they are able to get one, reasonably so.

On the counter of that, I have no idea if this is at all applicable to the US and the worlds, as the post does mention how IQ scores are lower. I'm just hoping that the statement is just a local thing or a small amount of examples. Sort of like how the post mentions how creationism is taught. I was never taught creationism. No one really cared, why should it be in school, to be honest? It's something that each individual child should choose whether they partake in the belief.

Also something I would like to mention is that America is incredibly advanced in the projects it focuses in. What other country has a wide of a robotics program? While other countries like Japan have soccer robots, America is trying VERY hard to apply technology into the world.

Robot is Petman, by Boston Dynamics

TL;DR America doesn't have a cutoff like some countries do. Could mean incorrect results.

User avatar #113 to #76 - moistnuggests (01/10/2014) [-]
Ripped right out of wikipedia:

"n the United States, creationists and proponents of evolution are engaged in a long-standing battle over the legal status of creation and evolution in the public school science classroom.[67]

There are states that teach the criticisms of evolution, such as Ohio. And others who teach Creationism along with evolution, including Kentucky. Colorado and New York are two states that do teach evolution, but it is up to the schools, teachers, and counties on how this subject is taught and portrayed to the students. (Boyle 2005). There are several factors that decide what is taught in public schools. Texas tends to set the standards for textbooks throughout the country"

So yea, its perfectly legal but still controversial.
User avatar #194 to #113 - brobathehutt (01/10/2014) [-]
No I mean it's not constitutional. It happens, sure, but the supreme court can not legally let it happen UNLESS it's a private school. Also trust me, I live in Texas and I have never seen creationism taught in school. I also hear about public schools that get in tons of trouble over it.

Test scores in the inter-mountain west and the northeast most part of new england are high too. The one sided states are doing the worst; Cali, NY, and NJ have similar IQ results to TX, GA, and SC.

Teach students to question. Focus on science, math, language, and how to find your own answers. Don't just teach the answers needed for the endless, ******** standardized tests. Don't use the education system as a political, social, or religious soap box. That's where the Super-Democrat and Super-Republican states are ******* up.

Damn right. My high school has consistently outperformed many of the others in Massachusetts outside of standardized tests because we have a literacy in communications as applied to science, history, art, language and mathematics to encourage questioning of what we are told. Nearly every book we read up until junior year, starting when we were grade schoolers, was about some kind of dictatorship or messed up government and rebelling against it.

>richest nation on earth

>largest national debt of any country

Welp, this post is **** tier.
User avatar #104 to #100 - Greevon (01/10/2014) [-]
Both of those are true, though. America could pay off it's debt in less than a year if that's all it spent money on, but just as a person would normally have a mortgage on their home, we pay it off in chunks that end up being more than the cost of the initial debt in the first place.
#112 to #104 - facepalmftw (01/10/2014) [-]
I understand the concept of debt. That's why I said it was a **** post. Being the richest nation means the United States bows to no-one in terms of finances. Having the greatest national debt means it bows to all others. The post is, in essence, a massive contradiction. It's like saying "I am the richest person in New York, but I owe way more money than anyone else."
User avatar #121 to #112 - Greevon (01/10/2014) [-]
It's not a contradiction, it's just an oxymoron. Having a debt doesn't mean you're somehow inferior, it means that you're investing that capital into different projects. Very few nations don't have a national debt and none of them are major world powers.

Oh no no, I understand that. What I'm saying is that a nation cannot have lots of disposable income AND lots of debt. It's not just bad budgeting, it's literally impossible. The only way the United States has fiscally survived in the past few years is by artificially extending their loan periods. You as a person cannot have large debts AND a bunch of disposable income. That income goes to your debts or, sooner or later, your property (or country) gets repossessed. That hasn't happened to the U.S. Government yet because a large portion of its loans are owed to its people, who have no idea that's the case.

Well, again I'd go back to the mortgage analogy. People who buy $250,000 homes pay off a section of their debt while reserving some income as disposable income. I agree though, it's bad budgeting, I'd very much prefer if we could balance the budget and generate a surplus.

We can, we just don't. Too much politics. You can get a mortgage and pay it off, save for retirement, and have a little disposable income ALL AT ONCE! What the fed is doing, though, is putting everything into the 'disposable' category. They're even guilt-tripping their opposition. "What do you mean you want to cut medicare? Do you LIKE making people poor?"

There is no creationism in american schools.
User avatar #168 to #166 - lieutenantbuzzkill (01/10/2014) [-]
People are trying to. They are also trying to make prayer mandatory.
User avatar #169 to #168 - miia ONLINE (01/10/2014) [-]
There are also people trying to make it illegal to be gay and make homosexuality a crime punishable by death. That doesn't mean they'll get anywhere with it.

I hate this country.

i wish it would stay that way
but since belief in evolution is decreasing in congress, i doubt it will.

A few counties still teach it, or are required to mention creationism alongside evolution, but for the most part, evolution is curriculum in this country. I'm getting rather tired of people overstating the claim that creationism is taught in American schools. A ridiculously small minority of schools should not be used as a stereotype for the country.

I agree with everything about this other than the debt thing. That is so stupid to say. Its impossible for us to have a positive trade gross, if we supply the world with a reserve currency we cant have a positive gain in funds

America is a child born from war and then raised by it. We had to grow up fast becoming a super power in under 200 years. Now we're catching up on being a child and ******* **** up.

Sports wise I ******* love America. I really do not care that the rest of the world plays cricket and soccer, I'm fine with football, basketball baseball and hockey (not so much nascar...) and we still do fantastic in the olympics.
