(sad) fun fact: In Germany, if someone breaks into your property, you don't have the right to defend yourself like you actually should. If you attack the intruder, you're more likely to go to prison than he is. Only if the intruder attacks you physically first, you have the right to defend yourself but even that only up to a certain extent. Basically burglars have more rights in Germany than the owner of the house/apartment.
