Nagasaki was initially founded by the Portuguese back in the 1560's or somewhere around there. I think it was originally a fishing village or some **** but the Portuguese said "Nah ***** we need to trade." and thus Nagasaki city was founded, Japan's oldest Christian church (not sure if it's actually a cathedral) can be found here as well. (it might not be the oldest but hey I'm close, I think)

After the Tokugawa shogunate instated the Isolationist policy the Portuguese and all other foreigne traders (but it was mostly just the Geese) were restricted to trade in Nagasaki only.
