Oh, get that AR-15 out of your ass. Most assault rifles and civilian semi-automatic military-style rifles are cosmetically identical, barring features like a fire selector (which allows politicians to say "assault rifle" as a blanket term to demonize the class of firearm). Unless you know who he is, where he's from, and what he's carrying, you might as well say either one.

I don't know too much about guns but I would guess "assault rifle" would be the correct term because this guy is part of the Norwegian Army, I believe.
