Meh.. it just annoys me to see wanton hatred of the British by the Americans, and it pleases me to see them get mad when we point out that the only time they ever took on a major world power in a straight up 1v1 fight their capital was sacked.

The war began in 1812 when the USA invaded Canada.
The actual burning of the public buildings of Washington took place in 1814, after the defeat of Napoleon when the British had veteran troops to ship over to the USA.

Nope, the Canadians were holding the line preventing the Americans from overrunning Canada (and they did a damn good job and won some outstanding victories as well), but it was a detatchment of British Royal Marines under Major General Ross who burnt Washington.
