In the English language abomination is used to describe something that is evil, hateful, loathsome, wicked, vile etc. But in the Bible it is translated from the Hebrew word "shiqquwts" and is, in definition, closer to the word taboo than it is to abomination. Taboo is used to describe something that is forbidden, prohibited, disallowed, and does not offer the same moral grievances that the word abomination does.
In short. While the Bible disallows homosexuality (in the Old Testament at least, where there are so few accounts compared to the New), it does not in any way condone the hatred that people say it does.

Except for the part where it tells people to put gays to death 2 chapters later (Lev 20: 13). Admittedly, Christians aren't supposed to kill sinners now, but the Bible puts homosexuality on par with incest and bestiality; Jesus didn't speak much about any of those, but his apostles and the Old Testament clearly condemned them.

Most sexual crimes were punished by death. By your logic homosexuality was also on par with falsely claiming you were a virgin, sleeping with a free woman, having sex with a Canaanite, cursing your parents, adultery.
And though Jesus didn't speak directly about those crimes, but he clearly didn't condone severe punishment of sin. Also, most of his apostles in their final stages of belief didn't condemn anyone.
