I dislike black history month because every ignorant, lazy and horny ***** uses it as an excuse to act even more ignorant, lazy and horny than before. This makes me and the rest of the community look like ignorant, lazy and horny ****** in the process. Not to mention the fact that people only talk about civil rights during MLK's time and not the crises in Africa or race relations in the modern day. Then forget the whole thing by st. Patrick's day.
#68 - anonymous (02/02/2013) [-]
the problem I have really with Black History Month is that we have to keep drawing attention to it during school, but we don't say anything new....just the same **** over and over.
Day 1:
What have black people contributed?
Garret Morgan made a stoplight
George Washington Carver made peanut butter
Day 2:
What have black people contributed?
Garret Morgan made a stoplight
George Washington Carver made peanut butter
etc. It's like the Groundhog's Day movie...heh, both of which taking place in February.

Black History Month is incredibly Racist.

Why isn't there an Asian History Month? Or Jewish history month? The jews were slaves THOUSANDS of years before Black people were. Same with the Irish. And the Egyptians.

If Black people want to be treated equally, THEN GET THE **** OVER IT AND GET RID OF THIS STUPID ******** .
#106 to #33 - anonymous (02/02/2013) [-]
they have an asain history month, code name heritage.. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asian_Pacific_American_Heritage_Month

Honestly do you think we want "black history month"? it's offensive. I mean, c'mon why of all month did you pick the shortest? That's just spitting in black's faces not acknowledging the wrong doings of American society.
User avatar #91 to #83 - redrex (02/02/2013) [-]
what the **** are you talking about? it's not spitting in their faces. for ****** sake we're giving them an entire month
#79 to #33 - grooktoken (02/02/2013) [-]
We have Black History Month in America because, you know, we ******* enslaved them. It's a ****** form of repayal.

So did the Portugese.
And the Spanish.
And the Dutch.
And the British.
And the Brazilians.

oh gee idk. maybe it's the fact that they've been enslaved for almost a century and they were incredibly oppressed up until the late 20th century.
just my input
User avatar #77 to #63 - schrutebucks (02/02/2013) [-]
That's a dumb argument. Giving them their own month is dumb, you can't apologize for slavery by suggesting that one month, out of the year, black history is important.
User avatar #104 to #77 - Kabutops (02/02/2013) [-]
to me it's a good thing. i think people have to be reminded about what struggles their predecessors and past citizens had to go through. we need a month (a week is fine honestly) to remind those ********* that this kind of **** went down in our country and we should avoid the path we took to end up having a whole movement rise up
User avatar #58 to #33 - awesomenessdefined (02/02/2013) [-]
This ******* argument is in every ******* post now.
If you're not a fan of it, shut up about it. Are we just handing money out to them this month? Are we treating them like kings? Are we doing literally anything different to black people today?

Black history month is a testament to the people who were slaves, and the black people that have done something great. It has nothing to with people today, and it has nothing to do with equality.

Also, I wouldn't call MLK's contributions to society anything other than extraordinary. Individuals have earned prestigious places in history for instigating massive social reform that would not even equal a tenth of that accomplished by Martin Luther King Jr., and they accomplished that through violence, which is far easier than doing it peaceably.

You can think whatever you want about his contributions, but the reason I hate him is because everyone around me holds him up like an infallible god.
He plagarized much of his work, including his doctoral thesis, and even his "I Have a Dream" speech was ripped from a pastor who said it 20 years earlier.
He also frequently hired prostitues and abused them. I don't care about prostitues, but I mention it because the people who love MLK and can't stop shoving him down my throat are against prostitution.
User avatar #57 to #56 - arrisarrad (02/02/2013) [-]
I have never heard of him abusing prostitutes. I'm pretty sure that if there was significant evidence for it, it would have at least been reported as a fluff piece. So, show me your source. Also, he didn't publish his speeches or letters, so your can shove the plagiarism ******** up your arse.

There were white jazz musicians too.
What I'm just trying to say is there's nothing special about them over anyone else.
User avatar #53 to #27 - richardsimonsgot (02/02/2013) [-]
The only white jazz giant is Django Reindhart, and he was from the gipsy french communities. And I only listed black musicians from the USA.

Except that without black people, we would literally have none of the same genres we have now. Country, bluegrass, jazz, swing, rap, R&B, pop, folk, rock and roll, and literally every genre other than Irish Folk came from genres dominated by black musicians. Without them, the music industry would be so significantly different that I don't even know if it would have been able to call itself an industry.

Hello, dude, George "Motha ******* " Washington Carver. Greatest botanist in America's history. Saved the entire midwest from agrarian collapse by introducing new varieties of wheat that could cope with the drought and pest infestation that would have ruined our agricultural production for over 50 years and plunged America into an economic depression. Made uncountable contributions to our understanding of plant life. Created so many uses for peanuts, that he's is seriously known by ******* 2nd graders for it. He invented ******* PEANUT BUTTER!!!!!!!
User avatar #72 to #18 - goochmaster (02/02/2013) [-]
George Washington Carver didn't create peanut butter. True, he did create many used for peanuts, but peanut butter was not one of them.
User avatar #114 to #72 - arrisarrad (02/02/2013) [-]
Wow, you're right! John Harvey Kellog was the earliest known inventor. That guy was interesting. I grew up seventh day adventist and I swear I've heard almost every story about him, guess peanut butter wasn't deemed important enough by my grandparents. *grumbles incoherently*
User avatar #20 to #18 - bothemastaofall (02/02/2013) [-]
fine I'm wrong, let me revise.
For every black contribuiton, I could find a contribution by whites/asians/ any other race. They don't deserve special attention.
User avatar #55 to #20 - solomon (02/02/2013) [-]
have you heard of jazz music? that was a black only thing, it was considered the dirty music and white people wanted nothing to do with it? guess what came from jazz? rhythm and blues, guess what came from that? rock music, from that? punk, from that, hard rock, from that? metal, we'd have NONE of that
User avatar #32 to #20 - arrisarrad (02/02/2013) [-]
In America they sure as hell do. Most of our major technological, agricultural, and industrial inventions from the 19th century were made by black people.
