I'd recommend Welcome to the NHK to people who want to experience depression without the crippling pain of actually being depressed. Too bad I don't have a qt3.14 gf to save me

I personally think Satou displays symptoms closer to that of Schizophrenia rather than depression.
If any characters display things closer to depression its the suicide promise group and Hitomi.

Depression probably.

Satou Tatsuhiro, 22 years old, thinks that everything that happens around him is a conspiracy. He even figured out who is behind it all: The NHK, an evil secret company.

"When you think anime, you think otaku. When you think otaku, you think people that dislike other people. Those people become hikikomori (people who shut themselves in)". So Satou manages to uncover the plot of The NHK (stands for Nihon Hikikomori Kyokai), after three years of shutting himself in (and rapidly approaching the fourth).

In reality, he is nothing more than a NEET (Not in Employment, Education or Training), desperately in need of a cure from that "disease". He wants to break out from the curse, but going out and getting a job is frightening enough for him. That is until he gets selected for a "project"; it is a plan to help hikikomori like him in facing the reality of this world.
I just copied and pasted that description.
Basically the girl in the front gets him to sign a contract and tries to help him intregrate to society like a filthy normie. 9/10 really good worth a watch.

right, so they imgained the NHK to compensate for their flaws?

sounds neat.

Well, he did at least. Every character has a major flaw and that's his. It's the NHK's fault he's a failure.

one of the best anime

Definitely. Characters you can relate to and a unique story that doesn't rely on "plot" to keep viewers entertained.

I didn't like it because there were some scenes that they didn't take it seriously like the suicide on the island or the last scene when he was about to jump off the cliff

Like, come on, it's a serious anime about depression. Why throw in some ****** joke and humor to **** up the atmosphere of the scene.

I thought those scenes were well written....they weren't presented as "serious" scenes because deep down the characters weren't serious about it either, and to remind the viewer that they're dealing with mental health problems.

To be honest I feel like the entire episode built up well
The entire episode and that scene are extremely important. They show us more about satou, hitomi and their relationship.
In the last scene is kind of meant to show him finnally let go of Hitomi, and Hitomi lets go of her issues.

Wait crap
I thought by last scene he meant the last scene of that particular episode.

Any way, my thoughts on that specific scene is that that scene kind of shows his delusions spike, they hit their highest point. Just after that scene he hit the lowest point he had in the entire show, he then ended up doing exactly what his friend's brother did, nearly starving to death by staying inside that forced him to begin working.

I second this.
NHK's my favorite anime out there, though I prefer the manga over the anime, it's a bit more grim.

Still haven't read the light novel though, should give it a try sometime.

The light novel is ******* amazing. It's more 'out-there' than the anime, though.
The manga is even crazier.
It's also quite short. A few hours to finish.
