I've stopped setting alarms for more than 40 minutes before classes because I can't convince myself to get out of bed any sooner than that. I don't eat breakfast and I should probably just shower the night before instead of in the morning. I'm going to do well this semester though guys, I ******* promise. I can't not.

I've been telling myself this for the last 3 semesters. Here's to hoping.

I dunno bout you but it helps me a bunch if I shower in the morning. It's refreshing as **** .

I always shower in the evening when i get home...
I dont get people who shower every morning, because what's the point? You go out and smell again when you get home, THATS when you shower. And if those people shower twice each day, then props to their durable skin.
i just realise while typing this that students probably dont have that problem...

because i don't want to be sweaty/oily from spending 8 hours in my bed and walking like that around people

Its a struggle man, but you just have to do it. Stop thinking about whether or not to do it Just dont even think about the goal in the morning just focus on moving each individual body part. Soon as you wake up, sit up. Splash water on your face do jumping jacks something for crying out load youre letting sleep ruin your future. Willpower can be forced.
User avatar #3 - spagete (01/01/2016) [-]
all problems in this would be solved if he don't sleep when he come back, you will have more time to do stuff and you will go in bed earlier, and because of that you will wake up easier, and you will feel better, but if you wanna be lazy slob you dont have time for anything

The problem is not the afternoon nap.
It's the *********** .
It doesn't matter how much more time you have "_ to do stuff _ " if it means that you're still wasting it *********** , making or browsing memes etc.
User avatar #49 to #48 - spagete (01/02/2016) [-]
yes but we all like to waste time on that, or watching random stuff on internet, its better to finish your "chores" when is day and you have evening for chill even *********** if you like, it works for me, i don't feel like doing nothing when is late.
User avatar #60 to #48 - kibuza (01/02/2016) [-]
Yea notice how there is no time on the *********** or sleeping?

I mean if you come back and sleep for 8 hours and then ******** for 2 or vice versa no wonder you have no time to do anything else.
User avatar #10 to #3 - teseus (01/02/2016) [-]
Yeah, but it's hard to focus when you don't get enough sleep. I think the best thing to do is to skip classes a whole day, do whatever the hell you want as long as you don't fall asleep and finally crash at a decent hour so you get enough sleep for the next day. If you skip a single day it's easy to pick up the slack once you get your sleep schedule straight.

it wouldn't be a vicious cycle if it was easy to break
User avatar #18 to #15 - ilovehitler (01/02/2016) [-]
It is easy to break.
Let's say you have to wake up at 6:00.
After 10:00 or so, turn everything off. Turn off your phone, turn off your computer, turn off anything that would distract you. Lay in the dark, in whatever way will make you most comfortable, and just do that until you fall asleep.
Once you get a good sleep cycle going, it's pretty easy to maintain. If you're staying up light because of schoolwork, it's probably because you're procrasting (unless you're in like, med school or whatever. Then you're just ****** ).
#22 to #18 - anon (01/02/2016) [-]
Some things are easier said than done. Some people get into habits and then have quite a hard time getting out of those habits.
#29 to #22 - kalaark (01/02/2016) [-]
I used to be in this exact same position, albeit with highschool instead of college. I had gotten so hopeless until it felt my only option was to drop out. I had went into therapy, and it took a while for me to get back up and onto my feet. I would always get into arguments with my family, especially my mother. Then, one day, I had simply said "I've had enough of this." I changed my sleeping cycle and woke up in the morning to go out to every job location within walking distance and got a job. I haven't been in a vicious cycle since.

It's not hard to break. You only have to want it to be broken, and it will be. Not every part of ours lives are made up of our own choices, but every choice we make is made up of our own will. If anon lives that type of life, then it's because he wills to live it more than he wills to break it. He can blame no one for that but himself.
#34 to #29 - anon (01/02/2016) [-]
That's a bit of a naive opinion. A doctor won't necessarily prescribe one illness the same medication they prescribe another, despite the similar symptoms. In the same vein, you can't just say, "I did it, so everyone else can do it, too". Human beings aren't that simple.
#72 to #34 - kalaark (01/03/2016) [-]
The situation is that simple, though. People do what they want to do. They make the choices based on what they want the most. If this is the life he leads, then it's because of the choices he makes. There is no other force holding him against his will to make the decisions that he's making.

The situation around the person changes from person to person. The solution remains to be the same across the board, however. It can be hard to make the decisions needed to change your own life. In between being in that position and making the decision to lead a more responsible life, I had gone to therapy and been pushed by my situation at home. I was fully capable of making the decision to change before therapy and everything else, but I simply had not wanted it enough. I wanted to be irresponsible and procrastinate more than I wanted to be responsible and do the things I knew I needed to do.

My problem is I can't stand absolute silence, so I always need music, youtube or any sort of noise in the background.

Otherwise, my mind and heart are going berserk.

Had this issue for a couple years now, it's driving me nuts.

I do this **** all the time at school, too. After leaving high school for a college 10 hours away from home in the middle of BFE and losing touch with the few friends I did have, it's made me question a lot of things about my life. I'm not happy. I don't have any friends. While I'm surrounded by crowds, and talk to people all the time, I'm still all alone. Regardless of whether I can graduate, get a great job, or makes **** loads of money - it's likely that loneliness won't change and I'll only find even less happiness. While these thoughts play in the back of my mind, the will required to continue the daily grind of taking care of myself and my studies slowly ebbs. I end up missing an assignment, dropping a letter grade on a test, and as the small failures accumulate, so does the sense of self-doubt. Did I make the right choice? Is this how the rest of my life is going to be? What happened to the person I used to be? All I know is that I hate this life and what I've let myself become. It only makes it worse knowing that it's my own fault. It's not like me or my situation is special. There has to be hundreds of people going through the same thing, some of which I probably see every day. But are those people giving up and sitting around on their asses whittling away a fortunate in student loans? The obviousness of my failure and how simple the solution is: "Just go to class and do the work." It's not like the classes are hard or the work all that taxing. Going to sleep before 10, eating regularly, and showering aren't exactly things to gloat about either. I just always fall into a slump of self-hate and stop trying. What's the point in trying if I'm not happy now and won't being happy later?
#53 to #40 - anon (01/02/2016) [-]
Maybe you should try to go to school somewhere close to home. That way you can still see your family and friends.

Sounds about like my life which is starting again in 2 days.

>Wake up at 5 A.M. to alarm
>collapse back in bed
>wake up again 10 minutes later because i set the alarm to ring 3 times
>take a 10 minute shower
>equip clothes
>shovel down as much food as i can in 2 minutes
>ride bike 2 miles to train
>commute for 2 ******* hours
>lecture for 2 hours straight
>group assignment for anywhere from 2 to 3 hours
>commute for 2 HOURS AGAIN
>contemplate killing myself
>arrive home at 8 P.M.
>have 1 hour to make/eat food

and people wonder why my social life is dead just kidding, nobody gives a **** about me or my social life . I'm so glad my parents decided to live in ******** nowhere and give our only chance at housing anywhere near my education to my dumb **** of a brother.

Ever since my mom died in October I've lost all motivation to do anything besides sit in bed all day and stare at my laptop. My GPA at the end of my 1st semester at college was horrendous. But at least I passed all my classes, right?
