Anons thinking of buying a crockpot

I' m thinking of buying a crockpot. is it any good? I just want to cook frozen vegetables and chicken breast.
Crackpots are awesome. Put the ingredients in in the morning and it' s ready to eat when you get home.

Pretty sure this is just how you get your sick kicks but in case you actually want an explain,

Crockpots are kinda like slow cookers, they take several hours to slowly cook through a cut of meat or some veggies and after it tastes awesome. Anon 1 wants to buy one so he's asking for opinions, and Anon 2 is saying they're great because if you start it in the morning, you come home from work/social events/etc. and have a meal ready to go. Then Anon 1 mentions that he'll be home alone all day anyway because he's an antisocial hermit type.

this is totally b8 to get me to write out all that **** isn't it

No I really didn't get it. I thought there was a hidden pun or joke in there, but you know, thanks anyway.

Thanks, we don't have crockpot or slow cooker here. We use clay pots instead.

I had a dream last night that I had a turtle and I would feed him fruit and now I see this. I take it as a sign that I need to buy a turtle.

Carnitas ala slowcooker style

Shoulder of pork large enough to fit into a crockpot about half full.
half a cup of oregano
half a cup of chille powder
This next one is a sin to all i hold dear but a jug of store bought salsa. about a quarts worth depending on your crockpot size. to make enough salsa on your own would require way to ******* many tomatoes and **** and time and **** that. its taste caramelizes and fades as an individual ingredient anyway so yeah store bought is just fine.

set your crockpot on high for about 4-6hrs. then halfway thro shred the **** out of that pork and let it continue to cook on low for bout another 2-4 hours.

any self respecting mexican wouldnt be caught dead without corn tortillas in their house. you can use flour but these things are so greasy and ******* sinfully delicious corn is about the only thing that will hold up under it.
top it with some lime and a bit of crumbly cheese and some chopped cilantro+onion mix. pickled onions are optional but welcome.

You don't make chilli powder
When you make it yourself it's like a paste and it's got nothing to do with being a hipster, just a self respecting Mexican
#38 to #37 - skelebones (11/21/2015) [-]
bahahaha dude yes you can make it yourself without it being a paste.
GET ON MAH LEVEL

i actually had this recipie from alton brown and altered it a bit cuz a few of the peppers are hard to find where im at.

Ingredients
3 ancho chiles, stemmed, seeded and sliced
3 cascabel chiles, stemmed, seeded and sliced
3 dried arbol chiles, stemmed, seeded and sliced
2 tablespoons whole cumin seeds
2 tablespoons garlic powder
1 tablespoon dried oregano
1 teaspoon smoked paprika

Place all of the chiles and the cumin into a medium nonstick saute pan or cast iron skillet over medium-high heat. Cook, moving the pan around constantly, until you begin to smell the cumin toasting, approximately 4 to 5 minutes. Set aside and cool completely.

Once cool, place the chiles and cumin into the carafe of a blender along with the garlic powder, oregano, and paprika. Process until a fine powder is formed. Allow the powder to settle for at least a minute before removing the lid of the carafe. Store in an airtight container for up to 6 months.

the reason they sell it as a powder is because it gets re-hydrated

Hey now, those little plastic baggies of chili powder from the Mexican aisle are pretty good.

Most store bought salsa is awful though.
#20 to #13 - skelebones (11/20/2015) [-]
eh like i said the store bought salsa is ok because you cook the **** out of it and the sugar they use to flavor their **** in a jug is actually a good thing because the flavor caramelizes like i mentioned.
User avatar #22 to #13 - volksworgen (11/20/2015) [-]
In my part of the city every aisle is the mexican aisle. my parents are from a generation before where everyone was either a jew german or pollock. nowadays its like 100% mexican. sgud tho bc every resturaunt is tasty af and cheap also tamarind candy is good for the soul.
User avatar #15 to #2 - mcderfenschmirt (11/20/2015) [-]
As a Mexican who loves carnitas and isn't hipster enough to hate store bought salsa I appreciate the hell out of this!
#21 to #15 - skelebones (11/20/2015) [-]
no prob m80. these things will keep and keep and keep tho so dont worry if you make this in a 10 quart sized slowcooker and realize you live alone and can no way in hell finish this in one go and remain alive afterwards.

Seriously though, Crockpots are super nice to have. You can just throw stuff in it and it'll usually turn out great.

Chicken Breast + Cream of Chicken Soup + Whatever stuffing you want = Deliciousness
