How to win Dark Souls:

1) Dodge roll
2) Attack from behind
3) Win

I've played over 300 hours of Dark Souls. I honestly never die very often. I've probably died less than 100 times total. Dark Souls is actually pretty easy if you're patient and pay attention.
User avatar #75 to #67 - shyyguy (12/20/2015) [-]
Exactly. There is a website that you can upload your savegame to and it will tell you total deaths. Can't remember the name at the moment.

I was tired of people saying "ughhh the game is too hard", so I looked up my own total deaths. Turns out people die much more in COD and, depending on the person, rage harder than they do in "a game for masochists and sadists".
User avatar #76 to #75 - emptysuperman (12/20/2015) [-]
Yeah, it's just dying is a bitch in Dark Souls.
User avatar #79 to #76 - shyyguy (12/20/2015) [-]
True. I think in other games like COD, death is cheap. You lose very little in the game and you die a lot. Dark Souls death can be seen as cheap too, since you really only lose your humanity, gathered souls, and some progress. Comparing with COD again, the feeling of nearly killing an enemy but dying is similar to almost killing a boss in Dark Souls but getting squashed, just usually a weaker feeling. I think it amplifies with the amount of pressure on you. In DS, there is the pressure of not wanting to lose what I stated above. In COD, there is very little pressure unless you are playing ranked matches, clan games, or all of your team mates died in S&D and you have to carry the team Some of this may be off, haven't played COD in a few years .

Anyway, I lost what else I was thinking. This was probably a longer reply than was necessary too.

User avatar #77 to #46 - ZenMacros (12/20/2015) [-]
I've grown tired of the people on both ends of the spectrum. There's the people who go "OMG sooooooo hard I died so many times this is the hardest game ever xD" and then there's the people who go "lol so ez I only died like once and that was because I sneezed during a boss fight git gud." They're both annoying as **** . It's not even close to being the hardest game out there, but by today's difficulty standards its difficulty is definitely noteworthy.
User avatar #74 to #29 - talldumbdork ONLINE (12/20/2015) [-]
I suck at video games. Dark Souls would tear me a new asshole and I have limited time to play due to work and real life. So relative to some of the adventure games I play, it is very hard to meeeeeee. I didn't git gud as recommended, so I fully understand difficulty is relative

Well, core, chest, and biceps, while difficult to develop, are among the most "aesthetic" muscles (and core is pretty damn important for some sports too). Pull-ups, though... Them lats. ******* love pull-ups.
User avatar #23 to #11 - advice (12/20/2015) [-]
I wish I could do pull-ups my right shoulder pops out of it's socket (non-threateningly, my joints are just kinda made that way) so it can't safely pull me up

That just means you're playing on hard mode: do pull-ups with only your left arm

That really sucks. They're my favorite workout. I went from 5 when I started to over 30 now, with 17 while wearing a 60 lb weighted vest. Feels good man. Only exercise I hate is running; I just do it so I stay athletic and well-rounded. I have a friend who's joints dislocate from tricep dips after a wrestling accident, and they were his favorite workout. Really blows.
#34 to #25 - gloriousthighs (12/20/2015) [-]
That's impressive. I started with sets of 6 and can now do a few sets of 8 chest to bar with an under hand grip. Have any tips to get to your stage?
User avatar #49 to #34 - sgtmajjohnson (12/20/2015) [-]
You're going to be disappointed with this, but it was mostly (until around 20 pull-ups) just doing them all the time. I was doing pull-ups, pushups, dips, and core exercises for over 2 hours a day. After that, I needed to start adding weight to keep going up. My advice is to pace adding weight when you get to that stage, don't put a ridiculous amount on all at once, or you may hurt your joints. Also, if your interested in general fitness, there are some interval workouts I learned while boxing as a time-saver like counting up to a certain number of pushups, pull-ups, and squats (i.e. 1 pull-up, 5 push ups, 5 squats. 2 pull-ups, 10 pushups, 10 squats etc. then count back down). Also, cardio, as much as it sucks, benefits your overall health and general fitness more than anything else I've noticed. As when building any other muscle, eat enough and sleep 8 hours per night. Sorry I don't have anything more useful, but I kinda just did this because I wanted to get in good shape, and I got hooked. I never really researched techniques for it.
#97 to #49 - gloriousthighs (12/21/2015) [-]

Man, competitive multiplayer would really suck. Even if you don't die a lot, because you'll keep getting killed while doing the exercises.
User avatar #18 to #12 - traks (12/20/2015) [-]
Why would you stop in the middle of the game?
Just take the final leaderboard score and do however many sets
User avatar #19 to #18 - sgtmajjohnson (12/20/2015) [-]
I didn't think of that.. Well then, at least objective modes that don't track deaths would be problematic, unless you checked your overall K/D between matches.
User avatar #20 to #19 - traks (12/20/2015) [-]
Ive never seen a game that doesnt list deaths in the post game stats.
I mean Ive seen games that say "Score/Kills/Captures" on the final leaderboard, but the death/assist count was usually just in another tab.
User avatar #22 to #20 - sgtmajjohnson (12/20/2015) [-]
I've played plenty of games like that, where kills, assists, and objective score are the only things tracked, probably because dying in a CTF game doesn't adversely effect your team.
