money paid = $30
subtract $3 (one for each friend)
net money paid = $27 ($9 each)
subtract $2 for tip
net money paid = $25
you're welcome

A simple logical fallacy most people miss - he adds the 2 dollars when he should subtract it.

you must do 27-2 to make the original 25 dollars rather than adding.
that is what happened the first time

$30 paid
$2 tip
$3 back

30 - 2 - 3 = 25

Go back to school.

Okay let's do this!!
Owed=25
They decide to pay $10 each
10x3=30
Cashier hands back $5
30-5=25
Which means they paid $25 with a remainder of $5
Waiter gives $1 to each and keeps $2 tip
30-2=28
10-1=9
However, they should have split the dollars up so that they each paid $8.33 instead of $9 each.
8.33x3=24.99 (rounded to 25)
2 dollar tip and 3 dollars back equals $30... Simple

You're overcomplicating it. It's as simple as they paid 30, 2 was kept as a tip and 3 was returned.

Math can never be overcomplicated, only explained in more detail. Math is a universal language, therefore explaining it in more detail adds more to the translation than what you knew before. Therefore explaining it in the best terms possible.

But it can be simplified down to a level which is more efficient. That's all I meant. It's like saying 'You're' instead of 'You are'

But doesn't that imply laziness? Instead of doing the work to make it understandable at ever turn of what happened?

I'm really getting tired of this retarded riddle. It saddens me that people dont understand order of operations and are like "omfg are you a wizard?"

3*10=30-25=5-(1*3)=2-2=0
3*10 being the amount paid by each guy.
30 being the total paid.
25 being the cost.
5 being the leftover.
(1*3) being the 1 dollar given back to the 3 guys.
2-2 being the tip for the waiter.
******* 4chan, go back to school.
