because when you're just in for a checkup it takes 2 minutes tops (of the dentist's time) yet when you are in there for a filling it's about 30 minutes. They can get 15 people paying $200 each in the same amount of time they can fill 1 tooth for $1000 not exact numbers, but general idea.

Because they are professional and want to gain money from you checking your teeth, not from actually fixing them.

Dentists in countries with universal health care are pretty determined to keep your teeth healthy, so they don't have to work as hard for it.

What if they mix all of them and make a Super Toothpaste?

Oral-Sensate.. I would buy it.

Here's how I can tell you these "polls" went down
"Hey, you're a dentist. Should I use toothpaste?"
"Uh yeah probably"
"Would sensodyne/colgate work?"
"I guess?"

and for oral-b
"Hey dentist, do you ever brush your teeth?"
"......yes?"
"Do you use toothpaste?"
"......yes?"
"Do you ever use oral-b?"
"i... guess?"

It's easy to tell the truth when you have very very loose definitions of "recommend" and "use".

Dentists usually recommend an array of products. Therefore, maybe 98% said colgate, 90 said sensodyne, but they prefer to use Oral B.

That, or they made it up or paid dentists to say what they want.

My dentist says: " Use whatever brand. It doesn't matter as long as the toothpaste has NaF in it."

Mine has Sodium monofluorophosphate in it. Colgate super master race.

I can see the logic, but I'm not sure if it's actually better. I guess the fluorophosphate makes the F- a better leaving group? I don't think the PO3 group is directly involved in the enamel fluoridation.
