I find that the ability to hit the enemies right where they spawn is great, especially against reapers. I find that the vanguard in particular is a very independent class and can split off from the rest of the team and be a one-man-wreaking ball through enemy lines. The ability to jump right to where one of your team mates was downed, take out the dude that downed him, then revive him/her/it is also good.
I can use stasis to stop enemies like Nemesis snipers, Phantoms or Marauders and take them down with a few point-blank headshots or heavy meele.
But I pretty use nothing but an eviscerator shotgun (I haven't unlocked the Disciple yet), due its accuracy/power ratio. Biotic charge for obvious reasons, and the Asari AOE heavy meele as a way of dealing damage to more than one enemy at once as an intermission between another biotic charged, due to a lack of nova.
I'll admit that when an armoured enemy shows up, things become significantly harder, but when playing as a team, I often go off and deal with the weaker enemies and let them deal with the tougher stuff.
The point is, I like the vanguard because you you're independent and you don't have to rely on others until wave seven or so.

See, I'm the exact opposite. I find they're better for crowd-control, which is what you need in multiplayer.
Unless I'm a sentinel. But so few races in multiplayer have the ability to be effective against all form of protection.

I use tech. abilities as more of a DPS. for the team, like for example if a Cerberus Atlas appeared, i could use some of my grenades, and Targeting ability too snuff some of it's life down, till some of my team mates show up then we can take it down faster, or if I'm taking a sniper with me, i could use the targeting ability again on some of the enemy and take some of them out before they got to us, making them easier to deal with, instead of facing an overwhelming force, and i could use Sabotage as an added bonus if i find myself behind enemy lines, or if my whole team was taken out.
