The reason we can observe its size and shape is because we can only see 13.8 billion light years out, ie the size of the universe. This is why we call it the observable universe. We can't see anything beyond it, and the universe may well be infinite.

Not only do I think that there is life on other planets, I think that these intelligent species know of us and even FIGHT over us.

Just think about it for a second: The Earth is a planet created from a Supernova remnant, meaning that it contains high amounts of elements heavier than iron such as gold, silver, and other precious metals that are both rare and very valuable for scientific purposes. (So on one hand we are a mining interest)
On the other hand, we are a planet within the goldilock's zone around our star, so there are high amounts of liquid water, which is a highly reactive substance both needed for life and many scientific reactions. (Providing interests in chemistry, and again, mining)
And then to top it off, complex, intelligent life is thriving on it's surface, with a high chance of eventually reaching out to contact them. (Providing interest in ecology, biology, engineering, any environmentalist alien, and even politics)

wouldn't the existence of aliens pretty much prove the bible wrong?
User avatar #64 to #45 - ianchrist (08/02/2014) [-]
Catholic church decided in 2008 at Jesus' sacrifice counter for all sentient beings in the Universe.
there might be some issues about them not being God's people (god created us in his image) but it wouldn't disprove anything.

Based on most Christian beliefs, if you haven't accepted christ due to not being introduced to the religion, say you lived in an isolated community, but live a good life, you still go to heaven based on your character.

Then why would Christians tell me about Christianity in the first place
#143 - nimithecat (08/02/2014) [+] (8 replies)
So let me ask, what do aliens have to do with our religion?
I appreciate the friendly gesture, but why would God damn them to hell despite having created them? And why do aliens even matter if our bible accounts only for the activities of god on THIS PLANET ONLY.

Why should we bring something that is none of their business into their society?
Do we really need that much church money despite all of the donations and direct profits of the catholic church?

Bear in mind that aliens travelling through space would theoretically have to be as intelligent as the astronauts we have on earth preparing to go to space.

This would possibly be considered an insult to the other culture if they are blatantly aware that you are believing in a lie and that you are trying to recruit them for a lie.

Be it truthful or not, if they see no god either, they will share a less friendly perspective.

Dude, calm the **** down,
he says the church will welcome them if they want to join, no more no less.

The Vatican has had an observatory for quite a while. There is a group of Jesuits there who dedicate their time to looking for life outside of our solar system.
