. . . coming from the guy who was looking for her approval.

it was clear she didn't have any approval, so he felt he should knock her a few pegs down.

People who use autotune should not be judging singers and telling them "singing's not for you." If she does use autotune, she totally deserved that comment.

Its funny because if I remember correctly, Simon doesn't say **** because he knows the guy is right. But I think Brittney Spears was there as well, and ****** women singers have to stick together, so they both gave the guy hell while Simon just kind of chuckled.

The funny thing is that Britney Spears was there and she said "Who let this guy on stage?" He should've replied with "Who let you out of rehab?" That would've been legendary.

We've seen this on the front page myriad times (just saying), and y'know, I really, really wish I could get behind it. We have a pop music scene in which you hardly even need rudimentary singing skills to make money, and someone with the balls to call it out on a national stage ought to be celebrated. But there's quite a bit wrong with this picture.

1. Watch this video - www.youtube.com/watch?v=1IqgpHv-VHI - and tell me with a straight face that Shawn Armenta has any credibility. Putting aside the creepy pedophilic overtones of the song, it's clearly been double-tracked and reverbed within an inch of its life and his voice STILL sounds like **** . He's the last person on Earth who ought to be casting stones about post-production dickery.

2. If you're going to call out a pop brat for using Autotune as a crutch, the absolute worst one you could choose is the chick who did ******* Skyscraper. Demi has proven consistently that she can indeed hit the song's insane high notes live, but beyond that, she's proven herself capable of doing what many of the great musicians of the past have done: taking a cover song and bringing something new and intensely personal to the table that enriches the experience (in her case, it was her struggle with bulimia and bipolar disorder, which I must applaud her for keeping as private as she possibly could). Kerli Koiv, who wrote Skyscraper, has openly admitted that she prefers Demi's version over her own.

3. I'll admit that Demi's comments sounded a bit insensitive, but I honestly don't think she meant them that way. The hard reality is, some people (like me, for example) could practice their entire lives and never be able to hit the notes Chris Cornell or Sarah Brightman can, and a talent judge's job is to find and cultivate those who can. What I suspect is that Demi was simply grasping for a way to communicate that while still showing respect for Armenta's (dubiously) hard work, and it just didn't come out quite right.

He has a great point about what the music industry has become, only autotune ******** , with only some real few actual artists left.
