Medieval noir sounds kind of like a really loose interpretation of steam-punk to me. Maybe you could look there for some inspiration? I'd say light armor under a cloak is a good way to start, but then again, that might be too typical.

Can you describe the character to us? Tell us about her personality, her back-story, her environment; how does she fit into her world space? That would help me flesh out her design a little more, personally.

lol yeah medieval noire thats stupid sorry for that one

the story is basically a fantasy story with a lot of magic mostly but they are alot of references to our world and culture because there world was started by people from ours
but the story starts with Anna is the main character of the story shes basically a very shy killing machine her adoptive father has trained her for years in combat and magic for her to complete her destiny wish is to find the reason why the blue ink is running out they pretty much need it for everything from theyre food to purifiying spells for the water and such

and on top of that there is an army invading half of there world called the army of the hawk that are taking everyones blue ink because they know that hard times are ahead

her father was an ex soldier of that army and basically allthere weapons in there world are brushes and art objects

Huh, I dig the concept. Sounds like a very potential fantasy universe.

I would think that a simple light armor design might fit your character pretty well. A shy killing machine doesn't seem like she'd like to show off what she's packing (though I can see the huge brush on her back), so maybe do some simple leather top and bottom piece with some lighter metal gauntlets and boots to match? Slap some pouches along a belt to conceal supplies, and you've got a practical killer look.

That would definitely be along the lines of ordinary, however, so why not throw in some reference to her father's military history? You could put a special pin he gave her on there somewhere, or even have her cloak (if she has one) be military-issued equipment. That little bit of character would make something a little more special out of an otherwise normal design.
