Yea I find I'll do one side great then when it comes to doing the other side symmetrical, the opposite hand motion messes with me a little. Hearts would be the best example :/

I have been drawing for a while now and eyes suck butts to draw. :/

I really think that copying is good. If you really look at the image you copy from, you will learn new things you didn't notice before and also get new inspiration.

Doodling is great too. I find it's a nice way to relieve stress, so don't get worked up because you can't do an eye. Don't forget there are more poses than in front of you, I find a 3/4 view the easiest to draw because consistency isn't a big deal.
