It's why, when performing live, DJs become more entertainers than musicians. Performers performances are what people go for, for the most part, along with the obvious energy of a live concert.

Disregarding genre wars, a DJ pretty much has to keep the audience entertained, usually doing this by adding live spins on their music, effects or just simple back and forth interaction between them and the audience.

Speaking as a fan of the electronic genres of music, that is. I may be a bit biased. I will acknowledge that a lot of DJs tend to use music aside from their own though, which does tend to subtract from the 'legitimacy' of things I feel.

Techno is a disgrace to the music industry, it's absolute **** . It's not music, it's random computer sounds. It takes no skill or talent at all to make a techno song. All you need to do is download a program and BAM you can make a techno song... if you have a free afternoon than you can learn how to make techno music. The computer keeps tempo, beat, rhythm, and tune. The person just has to click and drag a sound bit... that's it. "hmmm let me see if I click and drag this over here... ah yes! Perfect! Now to repeat this same sound 200 times and I have a song!"

1. Nobody calls it techno.
2. I dare you to make a good electronic song.
3. The only thing the computer keeps up is the tempo. Everything else is up to you. That you even think this shows you have no idea how it's made.
4. You need to login to view this link
5. Pic related, it's a screencap of one of my projects

That's a picture of deadmau5, one of the few artists within edm that actually plays and creates music on the spot

Well I don't have a row of sub basses and a bunch of high quality loud speakers in my room, so yeah, I'll gladly go hear what sound that laptop makes. Altough to be fair I expect at least 1 guy to be singing live on that gig, not just laptop, something more like Moby, a laptop and a guy with a mic, that's what I'm in for.

Bands can only get as good as their album live, DJ's can only get better just because of the quality of the sound system, not even considering effects, live mixes etc.
