From what I have been told, the VN is a thousand times better than the anime, and have been told by many to skip the anime and play the VN. So if you want more, I'd say do that.

Well, I don't mind cliffhangers or incomplete stories so long as the promise of eventual completion is there. The VN is complete at any rate so you wouldn't have to deal with that if that's what annoyed you.
