For multiplying and dividing, which ever comes first, that's the one you do.

is its equivalent. You always do brackets first. Even if its e.g. 2(3) thats brackets thus you do the multiplication first before doing the rest of the equation.

You do what is INSIDE the parentheses first. 2(3) is multiplication....

Although the saying is PEMDAS for you, some learn it PEDMAS. This is because multiplication and division are completely equal step wise, the same was that addition and subtraction is. You just go from left to right in cases like this.
