Its not just the fact that its good but its pretty damn mainstream at the moment and has received quite alot of awards in its short time of existence...

I haven't made time for it yet, but from the first episode I gathered;
magicians join guilds for learning or jobs and such
"fairy tail" guild is most reputable, "creates legends"
MC wants to join fairy tail
befriends a member of fairy tail
--haven't seen past this point--
