Kore wa Zombie desu ka is good if you don't mind fanservice. Plenty of bloody i'm not sure about the gore. Plus the story is interesting.

Berserk is a damn good anime and is what you are looking for a bloody anime with a good story but the ending of the anime is a cliffhanger that is supposed to be filled by the manga so it aint perfect but its still really damn good (re-reading the manga now)

Seconded on Berserk, theres a new series of films out now for the anime that follows the manga longer aswell

Manga is still number 1 of course though

the only shitty thing about the movies is that they arnt supposed to go that much farther than the anime did but hopefully if they do really well than they can make a new season of anime or more movies
