I love the magic explanations but they really aren't needed for the story at all

It is needed because they act like magic is more of a science than some unexplained force, so they can't just use the excuse of "because it's magic". I do think that it could be less wordy though.

it couldve been something good that could be taken seriously like fate stay night
but the focus on comedy and ecchi undermines it
theres just too much of it and its all unneeded

Because people who read LNs have probably been around anime and manga long enough to find shit on their own, and it is also the least popular form of media.

So people are still reading it. I actually just got into light novels and more people might get into them as well.

But most translated LNs are really easy to find as most of them are on baka-tsuki. Baka-tsuki also already has LN recs as well, so if you want to do something for LN readers just post a link to there on the wiki. Also I recemond you read Utsuro no Hako to Zero no Maria, if you haven't already.

They have a good story, but they aren't well written. It's way better written than SAO for sure. Might just be because a lot of the prose is lost in translation because Fantranslation, but as a writer myself, the prose for most VN's are utterly fucking terrible.

I completely agree with you, and don't listen to the other guy. He does choose Rias as the main girl, but she knows she has to share him with the other girls, so its still gonna have a harem ending.
