I'd like to see what you guys think about something, because I've got a decision to make.

Hate is a strong word. I hate my teeth.

My teeth are a major reason why I've given up on finding a relationship. I can't imagine a girl wanting to kiss someone with messed up teeth, and I feel like any girl deserves better than a guy who can't even smile in a picture together with her. Not to mention that many people list a nice smile as being a very attractive feature, if not a requirement for them being attracted to a person at all.

I never laugh or smile without covering my mouth, and as much as I want to, I never can smile and say hi to a girl or anyone walking opposite me. Recently I've been trying to be more social and involved, but for the reasons above I still end up coming across as unsocial when walking around campus.

By this time you must be thinking that I should just get braces. I wish it were this easy, but it isn't. I went to an orthodontist recently expecting good news, and received just the opposite. The nurse basically told me that my face is deformed, but was nice enough to say that, "Most people who have what you have are kind of ugly, but you aren't, I mean, you don't have any problems getting dates do you?" Yeah right.

I was told that in order to fully fix my mouth, I'd need surgery that requires a long recovery time and braces afterwards. There's apparently a middle of the road type procedure that many people choose over surgery, but I was lucky enough to be the first person that the nurse had ever seen get told that my mouth was too screwed up for that too. There's no way I can afford the surgery, so I asked about just getting braces. Again, more good news: I'd need to have like four teeth removed to get the braces in, and even once they were off I'd still have a noticeable overbite.

I was supposed to call back and schedule an appointment to get some more work done, but I'm at the point where I don't even care anymore. What would you do?

Save up for what? The surgery? That isn't really an option. I'm a full time student, and the surgery costs "tens of thousands of dollars" according to the orthodontist I went
