It's hard to actually break the kneecap, but your knee is defs fucked. Do P.R.I.C.E.
Protection - wrap up the knee, make sure it ain't getting banged
Rest - Don't give up physical activity, but don't go HAM. Try to walk at least 3 times a day to help recovery
Ice - Get an ice pack and keep it on
Compression - When wrapping it, wrap it pretty tight. Not enough to cut off circulation, but still tight
Elevation - Keep the knee high up, especially at night (pile up pillows or blankets or something)

It's also best to see a doctor for a better diagnosis, I'm going by my time as a coach.
