Due to reasons, I'll soon be going 36 hours or more without sleep. What are some things I should do/not do to stay awake and alert? I've pulled off about 24 hours before without much difficulty, but I'm not sure how well my normal strategies will handle an extra 12 hours.

Stay off your bed. Dont even work or sit on it. It just makes it all insanely hard. Sit upright. Now this is insanely unhealthy: Energy drinks. I was recently up for 48 hours because I shot myself in the foot procrastinating, and I just downed them like you wouldn't believe. I got my work done on time, surprising quality too, but my heart was going crazy, and when I finally fell asleep I woke up bleeding out of my ear.

So it'll work, just depends how much you care about health while doing it.

I don't recommend coffee. Keep doing exercises and make sure you feel pain. Do 20 jumping jacks every 20-30 minutes or so. It won't leave you exhausted but it'll keep your blood flowing. Poke yourself with a pin, bite your tongue, pinch your arm, whatever. Pain helps, it sounds masochistic but it works. If you can, take nap every once in awhile, but if you're not confident that you'll be able to wake up then don't. Like medewu said, don't fap.

You can still be healthy while keeping yourself awake. Eat an apple if you can every once in a while. This helps you stay awake better than multiple cups of coffee.

1. Get a bucket of ice cold water to dump your head in whenever you get tired.
2. Don't sleep.
