Religious opinions only hold back the advancement of science and technology.
Yes/No?

I agree with WhattheNorris. I'm Baptist Christian and I have no gripes with science itself, only the people who try to use it to challenge the idea of God. My position is the science does not disprove God, it only reveals some of the ways He created the universe. That being said, you believe what you want to believe. I'm not going to argue religion, just expressing what I believe.

Only in certain religions. And even then it only holds back science from the religious people, not everyone else.

well it kinda held back fucking everyone in the dark ages, any one who tried to break away from the general order of things were either: accused of witch craft, blasphemy, or they were considered to be the devil or a demon. so it can hold back more then the believers of that religion.

Yes but at the same time there are religions that not only don't reject science but accept and encourage it, like Buddhism, which also existed back then.

yea but science on a whole was kinda like a death sentence. or loooooooong painful death sentence.

Mostly in Christian areas

which was just about everywhere but the Americas, the natives didn't really need the science shit anyways. they where pretty good without it.

everywhere but parts of Europe*

The America's weren't discovered until the later parts of the dark age.

which is why i pointed out that it wasn't really affected by religion. yes they had their own but it never really held anyone back, its just they were more focused on different things, and when the Americas were found, they had to deal with the "advanced" christens whom were shouting about the savages that were on "their rightfully owned land" that they somehow just found out about. (a lot of the people coming in were Christians fed up with people who knew religion was controlling just about everything and used it for their own power.) so they had to deal with that shit as well

Asian countries were far more advanced technologically and socially (particularly in China).

when i said "just about" that kinda meant that not everywhere they knew about.

i must say i had enjoyed this friendly banter. it is rare that i find one whom not only has a good reason for their point of view but had the sense to see mine as well.

I try not to blind myself by my own opinions/thoughts.

i do as well but sometimes you feel more strongly about different subjects.
User avatar #37775 to #37774 - WhattheNorris (11/18/2012) [-]
But feeling strongly about something doesn't make you more right than the person who feels strongly in the opposite way.
