well like i said, YOU should be the one to tell her. by not telling her, you are essentially lying to her. you cannot have a successful relationship built on lies, mistrust, etc. yadda yadda yadda. just tell her and things will be cool, also don't wait around for your friend to help you, this is your responsibility!
