join the new zealand army
under 10 deaths since WWII and if you die you get on the news
plus its all peace keeping missions and helping out in natural dissasters plus you get about $30,000 (NZD) a year on top of free food and accomodation for the year
the only problem is it really hard to get in

I joined after 9/11. The GI bill is what basically kept me from going homeless while I looked for a job.
So no. Its not bad, its a good chance at financial security as long as you were planing on being a productive member of society.
If your from the US, what were you thinking about for MOS?

Well the working conditions are worse than most other jobs. I don't know how all those things stack up to each other in the US. But here in Sweden you'll probably be better of with some other job if you only want money. Soldiers are pretty poorly paid and we already have health care for everyone.

Working conditions are similar to that of working in a cubicle unless you're a mechanic or have a combat job.
Soldiers are not paid that much here in the states but we get housing paid for, medical care, food allowance, clothing allowance, and paid more if you're married/have a dependent.
Pretty neat job.
