You are aware that diesel doesn't combust unless under pressure, right? Technically gasoline doesn't either, it's just gasoline needs negative pressure (it needs to be gaseous) while diesel requires high pressure (it needs to be compress till it heats up and ignites itself). Not saying the kid didn't burst into flames, but it wasn't the diesel that did it.

Diesel is more stable thus takes a higher ignition temperature but the vapor will combust pretty spectacularly if you apply enough heat to it.

PS A gasoline engine only has "negative pressure" which isn't a real thing but that's what most people call less than atmospheric pressure so **** it when it's on the intake stroke. When the fuel ignites, it is also under quite a bit of positive pressure.

Diesel burns, it's just not as easy to ignite. It takes a higher temperature to ignite diesel, something like a flare is needed. Once the flame is started, the energy from the burning diesel is enough to keep the flame going. Kinda like magnesium.

Flash point of JP-8 is roughly 60 degrees Celsius, depending on contaminants.

kek'd but diesel needs pretty fukken high temperatures to start combusting, i don't know the exact temperature diesel needs, but that's the reason diesel engines don't use sparkplugs
