It's because the receiver used to hang on a hook on the side of the phone.

Or why we "dial" a number

Or why a mouse is called a mouse

Or why we have "uppercase" and "lowercase" letters

Isn't it just because it looks a bit like a mouse The buttons being the ears and a the rest of it being the small, rounded body? ? If not, care to elaborate?

Back in the days of printing presses, printers had to place individual letters on the printing block. These letters were stored in large drawers or cases. By convention, printers would keep the capital letters in the upper case, and the small letters in the lower case.

Interesting... But wouldn't it vary from press to press where the capital and small letters were?

I suppose that it could, but nearly everyone kept it above the lower case just because of tradition.

i read that the lower case were kept closer because they were used more often... and since they had to change out the letters a lot it made sense to keep them close by

My 2005 sunfire base model has roll windows. It's also more favorable by some people because you can roll down your window without a ******* key, and it won't get electronic issues and get stuck half way down, increasing chance of car theft.

Don't most cars now have a bit of back up battery even when it's not turned on so u can roll up or down windows or the window shuts itself when you lock the car and turn on music or gps when u need a map?

but im talking about when you turn off your car and take the key out, there is still power to shut the windows and play with the gadgets, might be only for 5 to 10 mins tho

Yeah your car battery will still be active until your doors open then shut. Whenever I pull my key out of the ignition, the music still plays until I open the doors, then it will shut off right as I open the door.

I'm 18 and my parents old cars, the ones I grew up with, had roll down windows. And they were early a 2000-ish Ford Focus and Mazda 3. I'm surprised you haven't used one.

We still say "shotgun" to call passenger seat which hasn't been relevant since the 1800's when people rode carriages and needed to ride around with a shotgun.

My niece already asked this to my dad...

Well. Kinda. it was more along the lines of "Where is the Window buttons?" "You have to use the handle." "What handle?"

ive seen so many problems with the 'everything electric' cars

once upon a time, if someone elft their window down, honest people could open the door, wind the window up, and lock the car again for the owner
now its all electric, cant do **** to help, stupid people who leave windows open pretty much welcome theives

doors used to be easy to lock, just push the button down, all was good...now alot of cars have retarded electronic locking, so that if the remote doesnt work, you cant lock your car,

worst of all. modern BMW's....battery dies, your entire car is ******, you cant open it or lock it, and it requires power to pop open the boot to get to the dead battery
and god help you in you lose your key...you have to special order a new one from germany and wait weeks for it to arrive

i think i was working on a 09ish chevy something (cobalt maybe?), was not told that it had no battery, put the key in, tried to start it, long story short get told it has no battery and that it goes in the trunk, trunk uses an electric switch, when there's no power the car key gets locked into the steering column, there is no spare key

so i get where you're coming from
