I tried this and the bread just soaks up the butter making it all yukky. no me gusta

Sounds like you either used way too much butter or, like yukijudai said, didn't get it hot enough.

You gotta heat the butter in the pan a lot, so by the time you throw the roll in it will make a sizzling sound. Non-stick pan recommended cuz its easier to clean. Also make sure you tightly press the roll so that it doesn't split open when cooking, I recommend the butter that  believe it or not  comes in a glue stick which helps it stick better. And lastly never use any bread that isn't a perfect square!
