They're more like, "I will beat my kid to death because he/she doesn't want to partake in my extremist religious views". Who even cares, they live in the middle of nowhere.
No. He knows exactly how that **** culture works. You've just bought into the propaganda machine. You think they're about quilts and cheese? Think again. The Amish kill thousands every year.
Wake up, sheeple!
i get the joke, but i love the amish, i live near an amish settlement and they sell discount eggs in return for cartons, and their baked goods are retardedly good. plus, there the nicest people ever.
I don't like the fact that they are willing to abandon and excommunicate their children, if they choose another way of life.
Abandoning your blood is one of the lowest things you can do as a human being. And these people do it for such a lame reason as a religious belief...
While they may not hurt anyone, they are cruel and fanatic.
I work in a place that is marketed as an "Amish Restaurant" and I'm here to tell you that Amish people can be the sweetest in the world, but at the same time they are also ****** up. I've heard lots of stories about Amish people ******* their cousins, nieces, sisters, daughters, and the like. It's actually a well-known thing that they do that. I hope you enjoy your god damn incest eggs
Yeah, well a lot of Amish people (around 40% I would guess) are born with defects and **** . It's pretty gross. I assume it's mostly related to their incestuous ways.
It's kind of disgusting. That doesn't excuse it, really. Also, the communities are very widespread in the Ohio/PA area. In my area they are as common as "english" folk
Incest between two consenting adults is taboo and gross, but it isnt hurting anyone. I think the only argument would be the moral implications of birth defects if they get pregnant. Otherwise let them do their gross thing in peace yo.
Except they have a tradition called (and I'll probably **** this up) "rumspringa" or something close to that. They allow all the young kids (~15 yo, I think) to go to the "English" world to experience all the stuff that we can. If they don't want to come home, they don't have to
I thought the Quarians were Space Jews. They have strong traditions that guide every aspect of their life, a strong tradition of education, and they're a wandering diaspora of between 10 and 20 million that always get **** wherever they go.
You are absolutely right. Yet I think the rumspringa sounds better on paper than it actually is....I mean come on, abandoning your whole family, the life you lived and basically everything because you spend some time in the real world? Especially growing up like they did. Where family is everything. I dont think the choice is real.
Aren't Wahhabi muslims the type that believe that technology past mohommed is bad or something? The very same sect of islam that isis is a part of? I might be wrong though
Actually, what Amish people can and cannot do according to their religion is often dictated by the local "head of their religion" whatever the **** you call it. But anyway, I commonly see young Amish girls walk around using cell phones and the like. They commonly use technology at my workplace as well. (I work at a "Traditional Amish Restaurant")
I find it difficult to think that many Yanks would come to a place with a dirt floor, no lighting, no heat in the winter, and the smell of wood burning. Sounds cool to me. But I thought you were joking when you mentioned a "Traditional Amish Restaurant".
And by the way, if you are a Yank, why would they hire you? They would be required to do all the SSA and taxes and all that, which they are not familiar with.
It is cool that you are fluent in German, but I never heard of a Yank working with an Amish. You must be like the first ever...
The Amish are pretty well ingrained into the culture of my home town. The corporation I work for is a national corporation that operates as a "Traditional Amish Restaurant" and simply hires Amish people to work for them. Being a little white boy, I'm allowed to work here because, well, anyone can.
If you leave the religion, every person you have ever known will refuse to speak to you ever again and you will be cut off from all financial assistance. You will quite literally be homeless and without a family.
Please note that I am aware that not all cases are as severe as this however it is close to spot-on.
You can choose to argue that giving them the choice so late in their life just makes the amish community stronger. Those that want to leave just do and don't try to convince their peers to do the same. Also, leaving the family to go to the city and cutting all friendly ties just makes it extremely unlikely that they will just abandon all amish connections. So how free of a choice is it really, after you've raised them in that environment?
I found out something super interesting recently. Apparently the Amish do not simply shun all technology. Because in fairness, any tool made by man can be argued as technology. They prefer to live a life free of unnecessary luxuries, but they will use more modern inventions like some power tools, or will see a modern doctor when someone is ill.
The thing about the power tools that the Amish use is most of the time they rig up their tools to use air instead of electricity, or generate their own electricity using wind and water I.e. the small metal turbines that you see all over the place in Lancaster pa
In a lot of cases when you have a van full of Amish going somewhere they pay "English" people to drive them. I've done it a few times actually. depending on the location it can pay really well
It means that if you eat one Amish and don't much care for the taste, you should try again. Like apples, there are a plethora of flavors to experience.
As I walk through the valley where I harvest my grain, I take a look at my wife and realize, she's very plain! But that's just perfect for an Amish like me, you know we shun fancy things like electricity!
The crusades wasn't exactly the pope saying "Hey guys, let's kill these faggots for not believing in our faith". It was more along the lines of protection from the tides of Islam.
Also, you really should choose a better example than something that happened hundreds of years ago and was still only the minority of christians participating.
The amish can go F off like the rest of the extremely religious.
They are some of the worst scum of the earth when it comes to animal treatment. They view the dogs as lower than livestock, strictly money makers. I'm not a PETA supporter either, quite the opposite. But there are several large amish puppymills around where I'm at and the local pet supply store I work at does a lot of stuff with local rescues as well. I've seen first hand what some of these dogs look and act like when they've just been pulled from their **** holes. Dogs matted up with urine and feces so thick it takes an hour just to shave them down to give them a bath. Birth defects and illnesses. Just last week they got a couple golden retrievers in so introverted from abuse and lack of socialization all they wanted to do was sit in their kennels, stare at the floor behind them and pretend that there weren't human beings in the room with them. If the rescues won't take the ones they don't have any use for then they will kill them.
The amish around here treat their horses like **** , they don't beleive in gaudy or flashy animals, but they are always amazing with their dogs, about half a mile down the road an amish family owns a chihuahua that always barks at us to "protect" it's amish family
You're an animal too, never forget that you aren't superior. Look at how jaded and depressed you are and how happy most dogs are and ask yourself which is the freer of the two.
Unfortunately so.
A neighboring city to where I live recently OK'd an 80 female breeding operation for them to continue what they do. EIGHTY females that can produce almost 1000 puppies in just over a year (average 6 per, two times a year). This is only months after MN passed another law putting a restriction on 10 intact dogs (male or female) to cut down on operations like this. I was so disgusted I just wanted to move to another planet.
Not really that different from Factory Farms really, but really people would get more upset over this from them being dogs, rather than other types of animals.
Not relevant to amish but fun fact, In the U.S. Jews preform more terrorist attacks than muslims. Here's the graph compiled and a link to the fbis stats.
Please don't equate being religious with non violence. Islam is only the current extremist group. Christians started the Crusades and killed anyone who wouldn't convert.
Even today, you have idiots like that fat dipsh*t in Kentucky who uses her religion to support her bigotry and intolerance. Blowing up abortion clinics and yelling abuse at people who don't follow your beliefs is just another example of Christians who don't have the faintest idea what Christ said.
