It didn't try to kill gaming. Microsoft wanted to be the only system, that could do everything. Sadly, in this generation of digital entertainment, cable is getting phased out and replaced by other cheaper alternative companies like Hulu,Crackle and Netflix. While for a next-gen system it is surprisingly weak, it didn't try to kill anything.
