The US won't be "backing" Turkey. They are trying to squash this thing before it turns into the **** storm we all know it will become. If Russia decides to trounce Turkey, the US won't intervene. We are playing damage control right now.

they werent really sure whether he crossed the border or not, so they gave warnings
at some point they shot
after shooting him down they looked at the route he flew
they realized "oh he actually crossed the border, better feed that **** to the news before anyone can say anythin"
they didnt realize how obvious it was that they are lying.
according to a german news site, the pilot was shot while in syrian territory either way 10 secs is way less time than you need to realize he crossed the borders and shoot

Here's an easy question: If Turkey armed the rebels fighting against Assad, and is partnered with Isil, then why are those two fighting?
Here's another: If Russia is targeting Isil, why would they be so close to the border instead of futher south where the line of battle between Assad and Isil is?
Here's another: If Russia is actively targeting Isil almost exclusively (an enemy of the rebels), why did the rebels immediately shoot the pilot as he parachuted down?
Here's a question I don't know the answer to: Who and where the **** is it said that Turkey warned Russia to stop bombing Isil?!
And just a last tidbit. Russia has ALWAYS pushed boarders with their planes since the cold war to test response times. They're getting more aggressive with it, and apparently they didn't think Turkey would actually respond sensibly from a (FIFTH!!!!!!!) airspace incursion from an unknown Russian HPA.

No. No. Wrong. Turkey has little to no advantage whatsoever to support ISIS. Turkey just doesn't side with El-Assad's forces unlike Russia does.
HOWEVER, the thing is that currently in Syria, there are about a dozen of different factions fighting each others, and behind those, various powers supporting them:
ISIS probably supported by an emirate or two , Assad's forces supported by Putin , Syrian moderate rebels and the Syrian Islamic Front NATO and neighbouring countries like Egypt or Jordan definitely supported either of these groups , Yezidi militias, Kurds & Turkmens Turkophonic minority in Syria, supported by Turkey fighting each other while both under the menace of ISIS etc...
The problem is, Putin is allied to Assad, so Russia just sticks to bombing whoever's not representing Syria's legitimate troops. Including the turkmen milishias. And THAT'S where Ankara is pouting against Moscow since the beginning of Russia's open involvement in the war. Because weakening the turkmens rhymes with giving the Kurds an advantage, and the Kurd minority claims independence of the Kurdistan, which includes a decent part of Turkey, and Ankara sure doesn't want that.
Now, official Turkish reports claim that the plain was roaming inside of Turkish territory and that they gave multiple warnings to the Russian aircraft before striking it down, which Russia denies entirely.
We'll never get the clear end of the story, but either cases. Don't blindly side with Putin because eh is a pretty cool guy, kills ISIS and doesnt afraid of anything. The political back story is way more complicated than that.
1. Turkey gets cheap oil from ISIS and in fact Edogan's son-in-law was just appointed Minister of Energy and Natural Resources. This involves oil.
2. ISIS attacks Kurds>PKK attacks Turkey for supporting them>PKK conflict reignited>Erdogan says he is fighting terrorism (PKK) and gets more votes. Which is exactly what we saw before the snap elections in November.
3 ISIS destabilizes Syria so Sultan Erdogan can get his "safe zone" (annexation) off the Euphrates to Aleppo. He is now saying Euphrates to the Mediterranean actually.

ISIS is supported mainly by Turkey, Saudi Arabia (who spreads this Wahhabism), and Qatar. They also support the "moderate" rebels

The Turkmen are not moderates and work alongside the likes of Al-Nusra (Al-Queda) and Ahrar ash-Sham which are Islamic extremists and exert a lot of control over the other rebel groups. Including the Turkmen militias.
Turkmen and Kurds are not fighting each other. They are not even located in the same locations in large groups.
Plenty of Turkmen have joined ISIS and are mostly not even located where ISIS is.
Yezidis are Kurds and Kurds are the ones "under the menace of ISIS."

No. Turkmen and Kurds aren't even fighting and are located at different locations. Kurds are not claiming an independent Kurdistan. Be it in Iraq, Syria, Iran, or Turkey...they are calling for greater autonomy within these nations not calling for their own country.

As far I understand it while officially the turkish government says it shot down the jet for violating airspace, the jet was coming back after a bombing raid on ethnically turkish Syrian rebels (read Russian separatists in Ukraine, except turkish separatists in Syria), now this bombing run resulted in 30 turkish civilian injuries and 8 deaths. So I think it can suffice to say that turkey shot down the jet in retaliation. Which understandably was a bad ******* idea. So now we wait and see how putin reacts and whether turkey will continue to support the separatists. Pic unrelated
Turkey hate Kurdish. So What Turkey do, is supporting ISIS through inaction and as a roadblock, preventing anti-ISIS Kurdish forces in taking part in the fighting of North central Syria.
Turkey is atempting to border and secure its citizens from outside threat.. i.e. Kurds.

Why does everyone pick one side and defend it like they are the best thing that happened to world or something? Russia is backing Assad which is not good. So they also bombed kind of ethnic Turks in Syria who are not ISIS while violating air space. I'm not saying it is justified to shoot down the plane but I understand.
