2 cents from and old school gamer (Atari 2600, then Sega Genesis, then PC with windows 95, then Nintendo 64)

Given the average age of a FunnyJunker, I bet most people who think this kind of stuff is awesome never actually lived in the early gaming industry days.

The reality is that most of retro games are actually pretty bad and boring. I had a nostalgia moment one time, and replayed some of my favorite retro games - it was rather disappointing experience.
I guess with technology being new and me being a child at the time, it was easy to be excited - heck, I used to watch Windows 95 screensavers for fun.

There are not many games that didn't become dated imho (not talking about graphics, but the gameplay itself).
Most retro games I can think of, that do hold their own are early PC games.

For instance Total Annihilation (1997) puts Supreme Commander too shame - replayed it couple of months ago.

The fun part about this content is that literally everyone who can look at this content has access to these systems without actually having to buy anything more. Yes, even phones can emulate most of these systems. Unless you're running a computer from the early 2000s or sooner, all of this is readily available to you right now.

Cheaper?
Emulating = Free
2nd hand purchasing = Not Free
Im no bank accountant but I'm fairly certain that buying a 2nd hand console is cheaper.

It's around $140 dollars. Suppose it's good if you have a lot of old games to play and apparently it's not region locked.

Ive actually seen one or two reviews of the Retron 5 and honestly most of the comments saying "Just get emulators" aren't too far off. The Retron 5 does actually emulate games and more often then not has trouble reading certain games. The reviewer I watched couldn't get his copy of Final Fantasy 6 to work on it

But if you are looking for an effective way to play your old cartridge based games and dont want to have a TV with 8 systems plugged in its a good value. But chances are you'd get the same experience out of a free Emulator.

Picture only kind of related.

The issue with machines like this is that the pins start to break after about a week's worth of use. Never worth the investment.

No easy eject button like the SNES has, 2/10 would accidentally destroy when I try to remove cartridges.

If I wanted to play these games I'd emulate them.
If I wanted something more physical for my satisfy my need to collect I'd track down the real bloody consoles.
This is just stupid.

We don't all have compatible monitors, or enough slots on our monitors for 5 different consoles plus other stuff we might want (like current consoles and a dvd player, don't laugh).

It's a nice alternative that's like a 5 in 1 deal.
