That's basically how they do moonwalking simulators, actually, put 4/5 not sure, don't remember what % of g the moon's gravitational field is of your weight on the rack and it'd be like walking on the moon.
It's the new fab, where a portion of its audience believes that if you aren't doing it you wasting your time doing something else. Crossfit in itself isn't bad, but the people who do it put to much attention on reps and time, so much in fact that many people will get injured by not preforming the correct form just to do it faster, and/or not receive a true workout (Example: Crossfitters kipping when doing pull-ups just so they can say they did more).
Kipping is actually done for a reason, not bragging rights. To start with, the main goal is to maintain your heart rate while still getting the work out in. Normal weight lifting is generally anaerobic, as are pull ups. By kipping you can keep your heart rate up. Another advantage is that it works out more than one muscle group. Thirdly, it's really good for helping with shoulder flexibility (however this is an intermediate workout, so you should not kip if you lack the flexibility). And a final reason(that goes along with the first) is that you technically exert more energy. You move the same distance, but in higher intervals.
The disadvantages are: Not good for beginners or those who lack shoulder flexibility, and the fact that it doesn't isolate a muscle group like normal pull ups do. If you want strength training, do weightlifting.
At my school we had a crossfit trainer come in named Bob. Now Bob decided that, without stretching, we should all do 20 seconds of squats with no weight, as many as we could, with a 10 second break in between and repeat that 8 times.
after 92 squats, I couldn't walk for a week, I couldn't get up stairs, and I could hardly get out of bed in the morning because I felt agonizing pain everytime I put weight on them. And Bob says "oh you might feel some pain tomorrow, but you just aren't used to it, us crossfitters do this with weight hurr" **** you bob **** you... **** I hate bob now
my standard workout for beginners is, 20 squats, 20 pushups, 20 crunshes, 20 this, 20 that, basically every muscle portion is being used, put that into cycle and see how far you can go, just stop when it hurts
that is done until you reach the 100 mark, then we go on to the real stuff, like running(not jogging, not sprinting) and the workout before becomes the warmup.
still, strectching before and after is a must, otherwise you can end up with real bad muscle pain or even injuries
That just means you skipped leg day a couple too many times. And there is a thing called stretching after a workout or saying **** the trainer and stretch before anyways
You shouldn't stretch before exercise, it makes you more prone to injuries. Warm ups should be jogging doing the exercise with low weight which is exactly what you were doing anyway. The reason you were in pain was most likely delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) so basically you were too unfit and had a normal reaction. P.S. I hate crossfit.
First one was doing kipping pull ups which is just a fail by itself. It's where you use momentum to pull yourself up, but that doesn't train your muscles correctly, on the account of the momentum.
Second one, you're supposed to be slightly angled at around 10 degrees so that type of thing doesn't happen.
I mean, it IS understandable, but they're still idiots nevertheless.
2nd to last one- he is doing reduced weight dips. I'd wager he could do them without the reduced weight but that exercise would make sense with an obese person.
The issue lies more in his poor technique. For starters, his range of motion isn't complete on every rep, and varies from rep to rep. Secondly, he's using his legs and hips to help himself up. Overall, he's not isolating his upper body muscles efficiently or safely, and thus cheating himself from da gainz
crossfit is like working out without using your muscles. It really just makes you fit but will give you much less body mass than actual weight lifting will. It's using your entire body/momentum to lift something. While it's more practical in real situations, it doesn't do well for muscle gain.
In short my friend, it's a complete waste of time.
Crossfit is where you can not worry about exercising. Because exercising is the goal.
If you think about working out, you would have to worry about form. Crossfit is great, because it makes you not worry about form because there is no form.
i'll try to give an unbiased opinion. I'v been a wrestler since junior high so I know a bit about weight lifting and being fit. I'v also gone to several cross fit competitions to cheer on some friends. If you're trying to get big and I mean BIG, then cross fit PROBABLY isn't for you. Crossfit is meant to make you a general athlete. Cross fit is the combination of weight lifting and cardiovascular exercise with huge amounts of repetition. You'll lose weight, get in better shape, and you can get pretty ****** built doing it. Another thing about cross fit is the community is extremely supportive. The point of cross fit is not necessarily to be the best, but to be the best that you can be. It gets a bad rep because straight lifters, body builders and what not **** on it because theres a few stupid exercises that some people do in cross fit. Also, the cardio in cross fit gets a lot of **** because lifters say the classic phrase "cardio ruins muh gains". Here i'll attach a video of the highlights of the 2014 crossfit games so you can get a small idea of what it is
>Be me
>Be in highschool weight training class, Junior.
>Tiny, nerdy kid, couldn't weigh more than 100 lbs tries to squat
>His spotter is the hardest Dyke you've ever seen
>Has 10 lbs on each side, hollow bar. Weighed less than 25 lbs total
> ****** goes Super Saiyan
>Starts screaming and ****
>Bar slips out of his hand, smashes into his neck before landing on the guard rails.
>Kid slams down, face first into the cement floor.
>Kid blacks out. Dyke starts laughing. Kid never came back to that class.
