Ah! Right after I posted my comment I was wondering if it might be a unique subspecies.
Some "wolves" look surprisingly non-wolf-like, even more coyote- or jackal-esque; especially in summer coat vs. winter coat when they're sleeker and significantly less fluffy.
From this angle it looks much more obvious as a real wolf, even if it's clearly not the much more common Gray or Timber.
