You're lucky, it's been 2 years (and happened before with previous tenants) of random internet disconnects, sometimes 10 times a day and it's not on my end. You call Comcast and they go "Oh we don't see a problem" and they never send a tech to check the lines, but it's clearly because of them.

I'm sorry, i'm not certified with networking, but here's how bandwidth works (incase you don't know)

They limit your bandwith according to how much you use the internet (much like they do with cell phones), the more time you spend on the internet, the less bandwidth they give you, thus slowing down/ crashing your internet sometimes if you don't have a high-end subscription.

They do this for everyone, i don't have cable access or a house phone, so i'm able to afford a higher connection, and thus have loads of bandwidth.

But yea, try to limit your access.

if it's open network, and lots of people share it, then there's really nothing you can do mate.

I'm pretty positive that's not it, but even if it was there's no way I'm using that much and it's happened even when there was a bare minimum of useage.

It's a Comcast problem, I think they have to replace lines or the neighborhood is overloaded.

Arris tm722G Telephony Modem. I am debating swapping it out to see if it's the issue (router's been changed 3 times). I've also changed DNS servers, which boosted speeds but didn't fix the disconnects.

mind screenshotting a speed test?

speedtest.net

i'm curious if you mean files you download are downloading at 50kb/s or if the internet you receive actually has a cap of 50kb/s

Well, holy ****. Of course when I do check it for proof, I get "great" internet. Well, it is night and no one is using wi-fi, so yeah it is expected.

I get a daytime average of 30kb-40kb/s. But all evidence points to something higher then that. Welp.

jesus ******* christ that's abysmal.

also i find that speed at which you download a file is never your actual download speed from speedtest.net

i think that .89mb/s is like the maximum possible data/second you can receive.

also you will notice the national average is something like 13mb/s.

your internet is actually so bad that i don't think you should live like that. get help.

Well, I usually get around 35kb/s. It is horrible. 50 was like a peak. But yeah, gonna get that screenshot for you in a bit.

(Btw, it is at&t dsl internet. 1.5mb/s supposedly. So. Yeah...)

You need to drop them and get cable, or at least get the u-verse internet. I moved from nj to sc, in nj thru comcast i was getting at least 15mbps on a bad day with att u-verse i was barely getting more than 3.5 for the same price. I would definitely kill someone if i was stuck with 50k, again.

Yeah, we have been thinking of switching to comcast. But we are not too sure. We would go for U-verse, I guess. We are looking at somewhere around 18mb/s because of how many people are here at all times. Nothing really settled yet, but I can't live much longer on 50kb. I just want to watching some ******* peggle or something on Youtube, I have to do something for 10 minutes for the video to load 20% of the way. (I don't care if I have crap internet, I am getting HD video!)

Go with comcast if you'll be streaming, my dad streams cricket matches on the pc, internet tv apps, and a roku like device on the tv at the same time and he never complains about speed. Make sure your area has xfinity already even if don't get it otherwise you'll get several outages a day for weeks while they upgrade the lines.
