My problem is with their use of the term 'phobia'. That's not what phobia is. A phobia is an irrational fear.
You can hate Islam, for good reasons or awful ones, that doesn't make you Islamophobic. You can think it's wrong for gay people to get married, that doesn't make you homophobic. It means you're stupid, but it's not a phobia.
Now if the very sight of a Muslim enrages you, and/or you lose sleep at night worrying about refugees, that's Islamophobic. That's irrational fear. If you see two guys kissing and get grossed out, you're not homophobic. If you can't stand the idea that somewhere right now two guys are ******* , you're homophobic.
It's stupid. Racism/Sexism/whateverism isn't a mental illness. It's natural. Often illogical and wrong, but still a natural way of thinking, and it can't be fixed by punishing people's thoughts.

My best friend in school was an Albanian Muslim.
I am very well capable of differentiating between a Religion and it's followers.
Many Muslims are only Muslim by name, they don't follow the atrocious commands of the Quran, they are well behaved, and they are functioning members of society. They are not my problem.
My problem is not with Arabs, or Turks or Indonesians, my problem is with the fundamentalists and political islamists, the people who actually do what the Quran tells them. Sadly, they make up a majority of the followers of Islam, some being more extreme than others and some being more moderate, but I've heard of many ex-Muslims and secular Muslims that even many of the "peaceful" Muslims silently support jihad.
