Now, I'm in no way well-versed in Harry Potter lore, but I always theorized that the horcrux in some way corrupted Umbridge over time, without her knowledge.

But, hey... That's just me.

She only had the Horcrux for a few months and was evil before that. (She only obtained it after it was stolen between the 6th and 7th books. Her first appearances were in the 5th book and was an evil bitch then.)
But I do like your theory and it would make sense.

Thanks, man. I figured it wouldn't be correct, but I had hoped.

Thank you for the confirmation, even though it was to confirm the inaccuracy of my hypothesis.

Azula. You see her decent from unstanding citizen of trust to losing everything in her life an becoming self centered over the course of 2 seasons, even sacrificing everything just to fill her own desires.

Azula wasn't evil, she was hell bend on proving superiority to her brother. See in the Fire Nation women were never held in high regard, so even though she was the daughter of the future Firelord she had no respect. People never hoped or wanted her to become a powerful leader, all of those hopes were for Zuko. He was protected by his mother, where she was seen as a monster. Her mastery of Firebending came from her deep seeded hatred towards the way things in the Fire Nation were and how her mother hated her. Azula wasn't evil, just a hurt little girl who wanted nothing more than respect and love, someone to become close with someone who would stay with her no matter what. In her pursuit she lost her way and eventually went crazy, but her cries for help were never heard by her mother or father or Zuko or anybody, Azula became what people thought she was, a monster.

Yes. I thought that was fairly obvious.
