Alot of christian stuff has been twisted over the years, like the upside down cross doesn't stand for the devil, but for the one of the apostals, I think it was Judas as he betrayed Jesus and refused to be crossed the same way Jesus was. So he got crossed upside down. Same with a pentagram, in the past it was used as a ward against evil, the actual symbol for the devil looks like pic called a "satanic cross" which is real mockery of the cross. I think has something to do with infinitly begin tortured on a cross, aka hell.

As other people said, its not the cross of Judas but st. Peter

ya didnt judas hang himself?
User avatar #39 to #33 - kloudianorici (12/16/2015) [-]
Yeah he did, he hung himself after he saw the crucifixion. His guilt at betraying the guy who taught him for years for a months pay kinda got to him.
#49 to #39 - chinchulines (12/16/2015) [-]
he fell to his death, probably suicide too but diferent than hanging

Acts 1:16-19:
16: Men and brethren, this scripture must needs have been fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost by the mouth of David spake before concerning Judas, which was guide to them that took Jesus.

17: For he was numbered with us, and had obtained part of this ministry.

18: Now this man purchased a field with the reward of iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out.

19: And it was known unto all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch as that field is called in their proper tongue, Aceldama, that is to say, The field of blood.

Depends on the book on how it depicts Judas' suicide.

Matthew 27: 3-5
"3 When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders. 4 “I have sinned,” he said, “for I have betrayed innocent blood.”

“What is that to us?” they replied. “That’s your responsibility.”

5 So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself."
#64 to #62 - chinchulines (12/17/2015) [-]
so what really happened?
User avatar #65 to #64 - habanaro (12/17/2015) [-]
Idk. Could be translator's prerogative, or a changed narrative to suit the apostles in Acts, or it never really happened. Short of asking Judas I'm not sure of a way to verify it.

Most historians/theologians say Matthew was written first of the four gospels, all of which were written before Acts, so if I were to take it before hearsay I would pick Matthew for the closest account. Luke mainly used Matthew's work as a source, so there's that. Mark is written from Peter's testimony, and John was written years and years after any of them, according to his own memory (as one of the youngest disciples).

I mean. My own inclination is to dismiss it all and be like 'who cares' but the mystery/argument is always fun.
User avatar #69 to #65 - kloudianorici (12/17/2015) [-]
I think some of that was also mistranslated text due to the Latin Vulgate version. There are so many words with multiple meanings in Latin like there are in English that it could have been the product of something that happened then, or the various re recordings from the time of the monks. There had to be some clerical errors during that time.
User avatar #70 to #69 - habanaro (12/17/2015) [-]
Depends on the translation yes, although most translate from koine rather than latin. ESV is I think is accepted as closest to the greek texts.

The symbol you posted is actually derived from alchemical symbol for sulfur and as such symbolizes Hell.
Pentagram was used as symbol of Baphomet in some occult literature of 19th century and it stuck.
User avatar #60 to #59 - newepic (12/16/2015) [-]
Western symbolism
The pentagram was used in ancient times as a Christian symbol for the five senses,[11] or of the five wounds of Christ. A Christian use of the pentangle occurs in the 14th-century English poem Sir Gawain and the Green Knight, in which the symbol decorates the shield of the hero, Gawain. The unnamed poet credits the symbol's origin to King Solomon, and says the symbol is key to understanding the work. The poet explains that each of the five interconnected points represents a virtue tied to a group of five. Gawain is keen in his five senses, dextrous in his five fingers, faithful to the salvation provided through the Five Wounds of Christ, takes courage from the five joys that Mary had of Jesus, and exemplifies the five virtues of knighthood.[12]

The original goat pentagram first appeared in the book "La Clef de la Magie Noire" by French occultist Stanislas de Guaita, in 1897. This symbol would later become synonymous with Baphomet, and is commonly referred to as the Sabbatic Goat. Samael is a figure in Talmudic lore and Lilith, a female demon in Jewish mythology. The Hebrew letters at the five points of the pentagram spell out Leviathan, a mythic creature in Jewish lore. This symbol was later adapted by the Church of Satan in 1969 and officially named the Sigil of Baphomet

And thus the meaning of pentagram changed... quite drastically

Based on Renaissance-era occultism, the pentagram found its way into the symbolism of modern occultists.

Following Anton LaVey, and ultimately based on a drawing by French nobleman and occultist Stanislas de Guaita (La Clef de la Magie Noire, 1897), the Sigil of Baphomet, a pentagram with two points up inscribed in a double circle with the head of a goat inside the pentagram is the copyrighted logo of the Church of Satan. Note also that it is inverted.

Aleister Crowley made use of the pentagram in his Thelemic system of magick: an adverse or inverted pentagram represents the descent of spirit into matter, according to the interpretation of Lon Milo DuQuette. Crowley contradicted his old comrades in the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, who, following Levi, considered this orientation of the symbol evil and associated it with the triumph of matter over spirit.

St. Peter was hanged on an upside down cross
User avatar #27 to #25 - formal (12/16/2015) [-]
There's 2 different views. There's the view that it's satanic and there's the view that it's actually more holy. I don't know much about the satanic version my best guess is that generally, by inverting something you indicate the opposite and that might be how the satanic view came about. The holy view came from St. Peter who thought he was not worthy enough to be crucified the same way as Jesus. So he asked to be crucified on an upside down cross instead thus displaying humility and unworthiness when compared to Jesus.

People thought they were being clever and attributing it to demons. But in reality it was actually so that those that had their cross turned upside down was actually more religious. The religious text describes a man who lived a life of crime and sin that didn't deem himself worthy to be crucified upright, like Jesus.

Granted, this doesn't make a lick of sense. But this is the bible we're talking about.
User avatar #37 to #23 - captainfuckitall ONLINE (12/16/2015) [-]
Thanks Hudis.

The significance of the upside down cross actually changes depending upon which sect you subscribe to.

Some take it as outright blasphemy and so use it as a metaphor for rebellion and independence, others compare it to 'Energy Points' in the body that allow people to perform spells and rituals, and others still just say it's the cross on which St.Peter was hung from because he did not want to die in quite the same way Jesus did.

I somehow got roped into helping a local pastor move all his belongings into his new house.. he ordered pizza for everyone when we were done, and he forced everyone to join hands and pray before we ate.

Me being an athiest and all.. it was pretty awkward. pizza was bomb though.

One of my best friends had recently moved out of the house that we were moving him into. i went walking past his old bedroom, to see an ancient old lady hooked up to life support.. pretty sure she was close to death.

It made me chuckle, because i knew the terrible things that had gone on in that bedroom. the copious amounts of drugs that we had done in there. the walls had a thick layer of weed resin on them before he had moved out.

The only reason this dude is so docile is because he's either extremely drunk, stoned or both. I've seen lots of drunk Poles and half ot them acted like this, getting so silly as if their intelligence dropped to potato levels. The other half usually gets overtly aggressive, but that's expected I guess.

Also, **** birthday singing, the last time my friends tried that with me I told them to shut the **** up and enjoy the first round of beer I bought them. It was a fun evening.
