but Katanas are:
1. Light
2. Curved
So if you place the sword intelligently, it's going to automatically curve over your shoulder, and you can draw it out.
But Katanas are still not bended enough to have a SMOOTH draw, so having them on a moving/light backpack (which you can raise the butt off, while also keeping it on your shoulders) would be the smartest idea
Why don't people just keep them on their side then?

Katanas (i'm using this as a generic term for "japanese ninja sworduh") are usually kept on the side and hat makes sense, but in an urban/modern environment, it makes sense to be more comfortable, since the swords would just dangle around your side while doing parkour, which is incredibly uncomfortable

datmine ONLINE (01/09/2016) [-] The part about dangling is true but why would you be carrying japanese swords around in the city in the first place considering you can get shot easilly.
If we are talking about zombie apocalypse they make terrible weapons too.
The blade could get stuck in the flesh and who knows how hard it could be to hit the cerebellum or chop off the head entirely.
I personally dont know a good weapon for a zombie apocalypse but i would probably chose a falchion or a warhammer.
