Seeing statuses like that angers me, I worked in an emergency room on a volunteer base for 1 year. I haven't seen a single person writing pity- posts while their family member is dying next to them.

Why? I can completely see the rationality behind it. When someone close to you is dying, you could use some attention. I don't think I'd ever post things like that myself though, but there's really only one way to find out and I don't want to anytime soon anyway.
