He's actually not wrong. In photography, film and graphic design there's a "rule" of composition known as the Rule of Thirds.
Essentially you take the frame and divide it in thirds vertically and horizontally. You're supposed to try to position the subject(s) of the image on the lines and/or intersections. It doesn't have to be precise and it's also not a rule for every photo, just a "guide" or "suggestion" so to speak.
If you take the individual frames of the comic and apply the rule, you'll see it's pretty much dead on.
