Why can't we have a law or multiple laws by which people can't be depicted or named until proven guilty or otherwise.

I know you could argue it is anti-free-media to suggest that, but surely it's better than this.

Law people feel free to pick holes.

maybe it's anti-free-media but we're talking about basic privacy, and that a newspaper shouldn't be allowed to publish maybe-innoncents as rapists.

I'd rather they just say the name but not the crime, that way we know who is dangerous in the community but it won't completely ruin them until after the trial.

I agree because in a lot of places the fact they you were even accused stays on your permanent records (here in GA at least) and sadly to a lot of people and employers that is as bad as actually doing it.

And the media never flip their doings back either.

You can get accused of murder, and newspapers will report you as "Maybe a murderer" and then if you are found guilty, they go "See, we told you so!" but, even if you're acquitted they'll just not mention it, and your left with "Maybe a murderer" which isn't great either.

I speak from seeing it first hands as well, a good friend of mine was accused of rape after high-school, but after he was arrested the girl confessed she was lying over a break up they had. However, he still has that accusation on public record. So, due to the public knowledge of that he lost his scholarship to GSU, having issues getting a job, and the courts are being difficult in fixing the issue. The worst part of it all is the girl more or less got off scotch free, she was put on probation and was charged with filing a false police report.
