But in most of these headlines the perpetrator was caught or confessed. It's a more serious thing to lie about than most anything else, but it sounds more like part of the American and British culture of suing anyone for anything on a whim.

Think of the situation like an ant infestation. You might only see a handful, but in the walls there are hundreds. What's worse is that we are being told to "listen and believe", aka not ask the women making these claims to validate them.

But a false claim of a crime is, by definition, made aware to others, so police need to investigate it. This isn't something nearly as politically charged as race or religion; bias in investigation is rare. One could argue that defamation of character is much more serious when sexual violence is involved, though.
