Why don't we have magick and science?
After all, any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magick.

Sure, but that's not magic and science, that's science that looks like magic.

Right but if we could summon demons and give them laser guns to fight our wars for us, I feel like we'd all be a lot happier.

...except for all the demons running around. Such beings aren't known for taking cash payments in exchange for service, if you get my drift.

I dunno man, I've bribed a ******* of demons into working for me in Megami Tensei.

Right, but when you give them the choice of working for you or being absorbed into your body allowing you to harness their power for yourself, I imagine they'll go with the laser gun.

As long as we're making the rules up as we go along, why not just enslave our enemies' minds instead of bothering with the demons?

...Or do you just want the demons because the image of a demonic army with high tech weaponry is awesome? Because, sure, I can see the appeal there.

Really, I'm thinking of the Bartemaus Trilogy in modern times. You know, demons work for the humans or risk getting turned into an enchanted amulet. Or tortured by hellfire for all of eternity.

...God damn it, now I have another three (four?) books to add to my list of things I need to read.

It's three books with a prequel making four books.
