So I was at Wendy's the other day with a couple of my boys.
We go there, because they cost a little more, so usually have better service the McDonald's or Burger King.
There was a confusion about what we ordered when she heard me talking to my Son about Hamburgers. She said Hamburgers are not cheeseburgers and wanted to know if she got our order right. But they are. The slang, "cheeseburger" is short for "Hamburger with cheese". There is no such thing as a "cheeseburger", unless there is a town of "Cheese" somewhere in the Fatherland that I am unaware of.
My eldest Son was telling the employee, a black woman, that Hamburgers come from Hamburg, Germany. An important port town, where many Germans came to America by boat. Including his Grandfather, my Father.
The black cashier said "My family came to America by boat too, but because WHITE people made them slaves and hurt them!"
I was speechless.
I mean, my mind said "lynch ******", but my logical thoughts said "your kids are standing here".
How could she say that? How is that OK? How does she have a job? I just do not understand how it is normal to tell a 7 year old customer that his "evil" relatives hurt hers?
Germans were never slave owners, by the way. That was mostly a British thing.
Anyways, after collecting myself, I noticed she was VERY European-looking, as most African-Americans are 30% white on average, and simply said "You know you look like you are mixed with something?"
She said "Oh I am half-white."
Then wouldn't the logical conclusion be that she kill herself to avenge her family?
I came back to America to be among my own Kind, not be treated like this...
